Boman Irani is one of those talents of Bollywood who can’t fit into one character. When you search for him, it lands you on an introduction that includes film and theater actor, voice over artist, photographer among many others. Well, it does take a special talent to able to be a memorable character when you have to constantly share screen space with A-listers like Shahrukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan. But Boman made his presence felt on-screen, in spite of sharing the limelight. So, here we list out the best performances of this much underrated actor to celebrate his on-screen genius.
1) Darna Mana Hai (2003)
The creepy inn owner who is totally averse to smoking while a smoker (Saif Ali Khan) is just adamant on not giving up his guilty pleasure. Together, they create a very chilling scene. The character is convincing enough to scare off quite a few people to quit, at least in the film.
2) Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (2012)
Not many thought that Boman could pull off a 45-Year-Old-Virgin character with someone like Farah Khan joining him on screen. Except that he did and got rave reviews too. He has played role of a middle-aged lingerie salesman in the movie.
3) 3 Idiots (2009)
The character of Virus is embedded in every engineer’s mind, after-all everyone has known that one hard-to-get-along-with professor in their times of college and Boman just made that character (or their worst fear) come alive on-screen for them. Boman was also awarded the Filmfare award for best supporting actor for 3 idiots.
4) Well Done Abba (2010)
The satire about a stolen “well” told brilliantly by Armaan Ali to his employer is something worth a watch. Don’t miss this stellar performance if you enjoy some good acting.
5) Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd (2007)
Yes, the actor is more famous for his lip-lock with Shabana Azmi, but the beauty of a mature couple falling in love just like youngsters is a sure shot heart-stealer.
6) Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006)
The perfect stealer of properties and a middle-class man’s dreams, Boman’s character was hated and laughed at in equal proportions. While stalwarts like Anupam Kher did keep their space, Irani’s performance could not be ignored.
7) Being Cyrus (2005)
When it comes to complex characters being played with panache, this is one movie where Boman proves his mettle. While the focus is certainly on Saif Ali Khan, Boman is able to steal quite a few scenes in this movie.
8) Munna Bhai MBBS (2003)
And finally, the most adorable of them all, the stress-laugh combo that marked the character of Dr. Asthana could not have been portrayed better by anyone. And the chemistry between him and Munna is just sheer joy, maamu!
The recent movies Happy New Year (with SRK) and PK (with Aamir Khan) were no less. Let’s see what Boman brings up for us in his upcoming movies titled as “Dilwale” and “The Legend of Michael Mishra” releasing in the coming months.
