After launching two cars in the Indian market, Datsun Go and Datsun Go+, now the Japanese car manufacturing company Datsun has come up with their new car Datsun redi-GO in the Indian market. The car’s booking is now open, so let’s see what are the unique features that Datsun redi-GO is providing the users at this very competitive price segment. Fun. Freedom. Confidence. The ultimate Urban Cross – Datsun redi-GO – the capability of a crossover with the convenience of a hatchback.
The first thing that attracted me while checking out the Datsun redi-GO website was the ideology of manufacturers – Datsun is fully designed and developed in India. Yes, and this is what they do in every country they manufacture their cars in, which I got to know from their “About” page.
Best-in-segment Ground Clearance
Coming to the features, Datsun redi-GO has been strategically designed from outside – with a mix of crossover and compactness of a hatchback car. The car’s ground clearance is 185mm, which is the best in this segment as compared to Renault Kwid, Tata Nano or Maruti Suzuki Alto 800. Higher ground clearance means Lesser worries in the upcoming monsoon season and also swift driving on the uneven Indian roads. Another small feature that has been added is Daytime Running Lamps, which lets people know when the car is coming, and hence adds to an extra safety feature while on the road.
Quick Fact: In 1934, the company’s name “Datson” was changed to “Datsun”. This is because “son” also means “loss” in the Japanese language.
Spacious & Classy Interior Design
Coming to the interior part and design, the car has a three-spoke steering along with a music system with Radio, CD, MP3, USB, and Aux-in. As mentioned on the website, the car offers to seat up to five persons along with luggage space, so that provides comfortable space for the family. As usual, power windows feature is present in the car.
Remembering my childhood memories, my dad used to refill the petrol tank and calculate the mileage, also widely known in Indian lingo as “Average” which is the kilometres travelled per litre of fuel. Datsun provides inbuilt drive computer which shows instantaneous/average mileage, distance to empty and fuel remaining in the tank. The car’s AC has been modified as per Indian weather conditions, as mentioned on the website.
The most important feature for a rider has always been the car’s mileage. Datsun redi-GO is equipped with a 799cc engine which provides 25.17 km/l average which is pretty decent. Coming to the safety features, the car comes with airbag option for the driver seat but I’m not sure about the other seat.
I think the perfect weather conditions to drive this car would be in urban cities, as well as for longer rides. If given a chance, I would take this small beast to take a ride from Goa to Tiracol fort since I have always wanted to drive on that route again. The road without any traffic, away from the cities, with lush green forest surrounding on the hills. One can stop at any of the virgin beaches and enjoy fresh coconut water from the local shops.
